Too Like the Lightning is a fictional memoir written by self-confessed unreliable narrator Mycroft Canner, a brilliant, infamous, and paroled criminal who often serves the world's most powerful leaders. Set in the year 2454, the Earth of the Terra Ignota quartet has seen several centuries of near-total peace and prosperity. It was a finalist for the 2017 Hugo Award for Best Novel and the James Tiptree Jr Memorial Award. The novel won the 2017 Compton Crook Award. Its sequels are Seven Surrenders (2017), The Will to Battle (2017), and Perhaps the Stars (2021). ![]() Too Like the Lightning is the first novel in a science fiction quartet called Terra Ignota, written by the American author Ada Palmer. ![]() ![]() ![]() Filled with analysis and fascinating firsthand accounts of the operation of the system that codified and enshrined racial inequality, this book is required reading for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of America's second peculiar institution the future created in its wake. There are a few disturbing and scary scenes were a vampire threatens to eat a baby, but apart from that there is nothing objectionable in 'The Struggle'. Disappointingly, there are not many historical flashbacks in this novel, and there are no big revelations about the vampires' characters. ![]() This works better for the action sequences and those parts of the story not about Elena. The plot device of Elena's diary getting stolen means that the storytelling becomes more traditional. The stakes are definitely higher in this volume (no pun intended), all the characters are in more danger, and there is a feeling of tension throughout the novel. On top of that, Damon has become obsessed with Elena and wants to turn her into a vampire. Stefan is still being blamed for animal attack, and Elena's diary has been stolen by Caroline. Many of the character are different, and some don't even exist in the show. Do not read this thinking that being familiar with the television series will be enough information. It is essential to have read that book to enjoy 'The Struggle'. This is the 2nd in the 'Vampire Diaries' series, and starts immediately where 'The Awakening' left off. ![]() ![]() ![]() This Lady Di photo might contain robe de cocktail, gaine, salon, sjour.
